How We Tell, Show and Do
We use the Tell, Show and Do approach to create comfortable, positive dental experiences for children. This gentle technique helps your child understand each step and feel confident throughout their care.
First visits typically occur when first teeth appear or by age three, with regular check-ups recommended every six months.
1. Tell | We Explain What's Happening
First, we tell your child about what we’ll be doing during their visit in age-appropriate language. Whether it’s their first examination or a specific treatment, we explain the process in a way they can understand. We want them to know we respect their personal space and that they’re an important part of the process. Your child learns what to expect, which helps reduce anxiety and builds trust with our team.
2. Show | We Demonstrate Our Approach
Next, we show your child how we’ll care for their teeth by introducing the instruments and techniques we’ll use. They can see, touch, and become familiar with our gentle tools before we begin. We encourage questions and take time to ensure they feel comfortable. For routine visits, we demonstrate how we’ll count and clean their teeth. For treatments, we show exactly how we’ll address their specific needs.
3. Do | We Provide Gentle Care
Lastly, we proceed with the examination or treatment using care, gentleness and compassion. Your child can hold a book, toy, blanket, or watch in the mirror if that helps them feel at ease. We let them know they can raise their hand if they want us to stop for any reason, so they feel confident we’re listening. Our goal is to ensure visits have little to no stress, helping them feel comfortable for future appointments whilst learning how to maintain their oral health.

INVESTING IN YOUR SMILE
frequent asked questions
Does the Child Dental Benefits Scheme cover my child’s treatment?
The Australian Government’s Child Dental Benefits Scheme provides coverage for eligible children aged 2 to 17 years. The scheme covers basic dental services including examinations, cleaning, x-rays, fillings, extractions, and fissure sealing.
Coverage amounts and eligibility are determined by the government and may change annually. During your visit, we can discuss whether your child qualifies for the scheme and help you understand which services are covered under the programme.
How can I prepare my child for their dental appointment?
Creating a positive mindset before the visit helps your child feel more comfortable and confident. Talk about the dentist as a friendly place where they’ll learn new things, and avoid mentioning words like pain or needles.
Schedule morning appointments before naptime for young children, and bring items that provide comfort like sunglasses to reduce bright lights, or a favourite book or toy. Let us know about any concerns or special needs beforehand so we can tailor our approach to help your child feel at ease.
When should my child have their first dental visit?
We recommend scheduling your child’s first visit when their first tooth appears or by age three, whichever comes first. Early visits help your child become familiar with the dental environment before any problems develop.
These initial appointments focus on gentle examination, education about proper care, and creating positive associations with dental visits. Starting early allows us to monitor tooth development, provide guidance on teething and brushing, and establish a foundation for lifelong oral health habits.
