Trevor recently came into Dental Couture in Sunbury with a chipped front tooth. On examination, it turned out the veneer was around 10 years old and had begun to chip. Because we have the technology in-house to design and mill a replacement veneer on the spot, Trevor was able to leave with a fresh CEREC same-day restoration without the need for a second visit or a temporary covering. The whole appointment took roughly 90 minutes from start to finish.
Why Veneers Can Chip Over Time
Veneers Are Durable But Not Indestructible
Porcelain and composite veneers are designed to be long-lasting, but they are not immune to wear. Chipping can occur from biting into hard foods, minor trauma, or simply the passage of time. If your veneers are approaching the 10-year mark, it is worth having them assessed during your next check-up as part of a routine general examination and hygiene visit.
Front Teeth Take More Impact Than You Might Expect
Because front teeth are involved in biting and are more exposed, a chip or crack on a front veneer tends to be noticed quickly. The good news is that a chipped veneer on a front tooth is typically a straightforward case to address, provided the underlying tooth structure is sound.
How Same-Day Veneer Replacement Works at Dental Couture
Digital Scanning and Design
Rather than taking physical impressions and sending work to an external lab, we use in-chair digital scanning to map the tooth precisely. This allows us to design the replacement porcelain veneer to the correct shape and shade on the same day.
Milled and Fitted On-Site
Once the design is confirmed, our CEREC milling unit fabricates the veneer from a ceramic block right here in the clinic. There is no waiting period, no temporary restoration, and no return visit required for fitting. The new veneer is cemented into place before you leave.
What About Composite Veneers?
If porcelain is not the right option for your situation, hybrid veneers or cosmetic bonding may be suitable alternatives. Your treating dentist will discuss which approach is most appropriate for your tooth during your appointment.
Other Options Worth Knowing About
If the tooth beneath a damaged veneer has sustained more significant wear or structural issues, a dental crown may offer a more suitable long-term solution. For patients considering broader aesthetic dental work, digital smile design allows you to plan and preview treatment outcomes before any work begins.
